Our story began when ...
Lemonade Stand Art Studio was born from a season of life when I was quite literally learning how to turn lemons into lemonade.
After years of painful knee surgeries and six knee replacements, I was faced with an incredibly difficult decision: to amputate my leg above the knee. Before surgery, my family and I took a trip to Disney World, and I walked as much as I physically could that week, knowing life was about to look very different.
On February 22, 2022, I became an above-the-knee amputee.
Throughout the years of surgeries, recovery, and eventually amputation, art became an important part of my healing journey. Creating gave me something positive to focus on. It gave me an outlet, a purpose, and a way to keep finding beauty and joy during some really difficult days.
I was determined to turn those lemons into lemonade as much as I possibly could. 🍋
Around that same time, I began teaching art at a local school. I loved teaching and working with the kids, but as a new amputee, being on my feet all day and navigating a school environment was incredibly difficult. I knew I needed to re-evaluate what teaching could look like for me.
So, I brought art home.
I started teaching homeschool art classes right around my dining room table. That first year, there were just five kids.
Five kids, a dining room table, a whole lot of art supplies, and the beginning of something I never could have imagined.

We wanted to make a difference.
The following summer, we decided to build a little art studio right in the front yard of our home. Having the studio so close meant I could easily get there each day, while still having a dedicated space where kids could paint, create, experiment, make messes, and discover just how much fun art can be.
And those five little seats around my dining room table began to multiply.
Today, our homeschool art program has grown to more than 50 kids, and Lemonade Stand Art Studio continues to grow with private classes, workshops, parties, camps, and creative opportunities for kids and adults.
What began as a way for me to adapt to a new life became something much bigger than I ever expected.
Lemonade Stand Art Studio isn't just about teaching art. It's about creating a place where people feel comfortable trying something new, making mistakes, getting messy, discovering what they can do, and finding joy in creating.
Sometimes life hands you lemons you never asked for.
